PRESIDENT OF PAKISTAN DR. ARIF ALVI


Dr Arif Alvi was sworn in as the 13th President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on 9th September 2018.

Dr Arif Alvi was born in 1949 and completed his early education in Karachi. He did his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from De’ Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore where he was declared the “Best Graduate”. He completed his Masters of Science in the field of Prosthodontics from the University of Michigan (1975) and in Orthodontics from the University of Pacific, San Francisco (1982). He was awarded fellowship ‘Diplomatic American Board of Orthodontists (1995)’.

 

President Dr Arif Alvi has been a renowned professional and has held many important positions in the field of Dentistry. He remained Dean of Orthodontics, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, President, Pakistan Dental Association (1997-2001), Pakistan Association of Orthodontists (2005), Asia Pacific Dental Federation (2006-07) and Councilor of the World Dental Federation (2007-2013). Through his sheer hard work in the World Dental Federation, he was able to get the declaration of 20th March as World Oral Health Day. He is also an author of a book, theses, and many articles.

Dr Arif Alvi’s political career commenced with his pro-democracy struggle against the dictatorship of General Ayub Khan. He is a founding member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that came into being in 1996. He remained a member of the PTI’s Central Executive Committee since its inception and has held the offices of PTI President of Sindh (1997-2001), Central Vice President (2001-2006) and Secretary-General (2006-2013). In line with the Constitution of Pakistan, he resigned from all the positions of PTI before assuming the prestigious office of the President.

During his tenure as the Secretary General of the party, Dr. Arif Alvi introduced social media platform in the politics of Pakistan. He was instrumental in holding intra-party election (2012-2013) and enabled millions of party members to digitally participate in the election process. He was elected as member of National Assembly from Karachi in 2013 and 2018 and was instrumental in drafting and the passage of many bills including one on Alternate Dispute Resolution. He also chaired the sub-committee of EVM’s, Digital Identification of voters and voting of overseas Pakistanis. The latter has finally come to fruition. Dr. Arif Alvi has keen interest in education and health sectors. Provision of basic facilities to the common man and uplifting the country’s image are very close to his heart. He considers people of Pakistan as the most precious asset and, therefore, accords special focus to human resource development in the country. He is happily married and has four children.

PRIME MINISTER OF PAKISTAN MR IMRAN KHAN

 

Imran Khan was elected as Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on July 26, 2018, Imran Khan took oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan on 18 August 2018.

 

He is the 22nd and current Prime Minister of Pakistan., he was born on 5th October 1952, before entering politics Imran Khan was a cricketer and played for international cricket for two decades in the late 20th century. Under his captaincy, Pakistan Cricket Team proudly Won their first World Cup for Pakistan in 1992.

 

Imran Khan became a politician in the mid-1990s. Currently, besides running his own political party, Imran Khan is also a charity worker and cricket commentator. He made his political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 1996. He made a cancer hospital, Shaukat Khanum, in memory of his mother who also died of cancer followed by Cancer Hospitals in KPK (Peshawar) and Sindh (Karachi) respectively

FOREIGN MINISTER OF PAKISTAN MR MAKHDOOM SHAH MAHMOOD QURESHI

 

Hailing from Multan was born on 22 June 1956 at Murree, Pakistan. Received his early education at Aitchison College, Lahore. Holds a Bachelor of Arts from Forman Christian College, Lahore and a Master's Degree in Law & History from Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge.

 

Started his political career in 1983 from the District Council from where he progressed to the Provincial Assembly.

Remained a member of the Punjab Assembly for nine years from 1985 to 1993 and served as Minister of Planning and Development, and Minister of Finance of Punjab. Also served as Mayor of Multan from 2000 to 2002.

 

Has been elected 5 times as Member National Assembly from Multan in elections held in 1993, 2002, 2008, 2013 and 2018 and has also served as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the Federal Cabinet from 1993 to 1996 and Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2011.

 

Took oath of office as Minister for Foreign Affairs for the second time on 20th August 2018. Presently is also Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and an avid agriculturalist. Foreign Minister Qureshi is married with two daughters and a son.

FOREIGN SECRETARY OF PAKISTAN AMBASSADOR SOHAIL MAHMOOD

 

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood is a career Foreign Service officer with diplomatic experience spanning over 3 decades that includes various assignments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Pakistan's missions abroad in both bilateral and multilateral arenas.

 

Prior to his appointment as Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood served as Pakistan's High Commissioner to India from August 2017 to April 2019. Earlier, he served as Pakistan's Ambassador to Turkey (with concurrent accreditation to Macedonia and Kosovo) from 2015 to 2017, and as Pakistan's Ambassador to Thailand & Permanent Representative to the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Bangkok, from 2009 to 2013. Ambassador Sohail Mahmood joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1985.

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood holds a Masters degree in International Affairs (M.I.A.) from the Columbia University, New York, as well as a Masters in History from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad.

 

At the Headquarters, he worked as Desk Officer for the South Asia region from 1987 to 1988 and again from 1990 to 1991. He later worked as Director (Iran and Turkey) from 1995-1998; as Director General (Americas) from 2005-2008; Director-General, Foreign Secretary’s Office (FSO) in 2009; and as Additional Secretary (Afghanistan/West Asia) from 2013-2015.

 

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood's diplomatic assignments abroad also included working at Pakistan’s Missions in Ankara, Washington as well as New York, including as Political Coordinator for Pakistan's delegation to UN Security Council in 2003-2004.

 

He is married and has three children.

HONOURABLE, SPEAKER, NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF PAKISTAN MR ASAD QAISER
 

Honourable Asad Qaiser was elected as the 21st Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan by securing 176 votes on 15th August 2018. He created parliamentary history by being consecutively elected as the Speaker of the assemblies at the Provincial as well as National level. During his last term, he successfully served as the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018.

 

Mr Asad Qaiser was born on January 02, 1967, in the respected family of Sardar Bahadur of Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His family hails from the village of Marghuz in Swabi district. He is the eldest in a family of four brothers and two sisters. As a young man, he was a gifted player of both volleyball and hockey. After completing his early education from Marghuz, he went on to graduate from the University of Peshawar with a degree in Bachelors of Arts.

 

Mr Asad Qaiser stepped into practical life with the goal to bring about change in the society. This passion persuaded him to contribute to the field of education for the uplift of the people of his area. As a result, he founded Quaid-e-Azam Public School in the town of Zaida, Swabi, which is ranked as one of the top established school networks in the district now. His services have earned him the reputation of a well-known educationist.

Being vocal about the social issues since his student life, Mr. Qaiser started his early political career by serving as an active member of the students’ political wing. His drive for reform led him to eventually join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 1996 as one of the founding members of the party. The manifesto of “justice and equality for all” resonated with his personal aspirations for his people. Resultantly, he made sure that over the years he voiced the socio-economic concerns of his area using the formal platform of the party. In addition, he also contributed to organize the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at grass root level in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. As a recognition and acknowledgement of his dedication and commitment, he was promoted to the rank of Provincial President in 2008.

Being happily married and settled, Mr. Qaiser has been blessed with two sons and two daughters.

DEPUTY SPEAKER, NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF PAKISTAN MR QASIM KHAN SURI

 

Mr. Qasim Khan Suri was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 15th National Assembly of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on 15th August, 2018 by securing 183 votes. He was elected as the Member National Assembly from Quetta (NA-265, Quetta – II), Balochistan in the aftermath of the General Elections of 2018 in Pakistan.

 

Mr. Qasim Khan Suri is the most active and influential member of PTI Balochistan and very close ally of the current Prime Minister Imran Khan who is the founding Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) party.

 

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf emerged as the majority party after the July 2018 elections and formed the government in the Center. Mr. Qasim Khan Suri has played a vital role in laying the party’s foundation in the province of Balochistan.

 

Mr. Qasim Khan Suri was born in a famous Pakhtun tribe Suri (sub-tribe of Khilji) of Quetta in January 1969. He started looking after the Pharmaceuticals family business in 1992 and onwards. He received his early education from Quetta Islamia School while he passed his matriculation from Tameer-e-Nau School Quetta.

Later, he joined the Federal Government College and completed his FSC in 1988 and in 1990 he acquired a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Balochistan. From the same university, he completed his Master degree in International Relations in 1992. He has remained one of the finest athletes. His interests include swimming, hiking, cricket, football and hunting etc.

 

Mr. Qasim Khan Suri has been associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) since 1996 as an active member. However, he became an office bearer in 2007. Mr. Qasim Khan Suri has the privilege of being the only member to have been elected as the President of PTI Balochistan for two consecutive terms; first in 2009 and second when intra-party elections were held by PTI in 2013 - thus becoming the longest serving President at provincial level.

 

As the Deputy Speaker of National Assembly, Mr. Qasim Khan Suri is the Chairman of the National Assembly House and Library Committee. He is also the Vice President of the Board of Governors of the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS).

 

His rise to such prominence comes as a tribute to his long and dedicated socio-political struggle spanning over two decades as a pro-democracy activist and a committed political campaigner.
