179 stranded Pakistani nationals have been repatriated today from Hargeisa (Somalia) to Islamabad via Salam Air special flight, following the suspension of flight operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
88 (20 from Hargeisa and 68 from Mogadishu) stranded Pakistani nationals will be repatriated from Somalia to Islamabad via Salam Air special flight on 24 May 2020.
The High Commissioner lauded the coordinated efforts by Government of Pakistan and the Government of Somalia, particularly their Foreign Ministries, Mr. Mahmood Ismail of Al Nusra Foundation and Abdul Qadir Umar, Head of Pangani Tablighi Markaz for making the repatriation a possible.
It may be noted that Pakistan does not have any resident Mission in Somalia. High Commissioner and other officials from Nairobi could not visit Somalia due to travel restrictions in wake of COVID-19.
